I Like It Like That

I Like It Like That is about a young Puerto Rican family in the getto of Bronx, New York, and their struggle to survive in a neighborhood of poverty and crime. Chino and his wife Lysette are still in love after many years of marriage. Lysette's brother, a transvestite who calls himself Alexis, lives downstairs. Chino and Lysette have three children, the oldest boy goes by "C", short for Chino, Jr. Chino is generous with his family, and when Lysette's stereo breaks, he promises to get her a new one. One evening, the power goes off in the neighborhood. Chino joins a group of people who start looting the darkened stores. He finds the perfect stereo for Lysette, but before he can get out of the store, Chino is arrested. Since they have no money for bail, he is stuck in jail, leaving "C" the head of the family. Because they no longer have an income, "C" is prepared to work for a drug dealer. Rather than have two family members in jail, and overwhelmed by the lack of money, Lysette decides to look for a job. Chino is dismayed as he would prefer she went on welfare rather than leave his children with her "brother/sister", Alexis. Lysette hears about a job as a model in the Menendez brothers' escort service, but she needs $100 for some nice clothes to get started. Although she doesn't want to, she must hock her wedding ring. The manager explains that Lysette is not escort material and does not hire her. Later she is hired to assist Richie, a fashion designer from the firm, to coordinate the models for the fashion shows. It is then that Lysette begins a new life and discovers her self worth.
