Billie Frank is a young singer who overcomes a turbulent childhood and struggles to find her true family and her true voice. Billie is discovered by Julian Dice, a deejay who soon becomes her partner, producer and lover. With Dice, she begins an exciting but often volatile and precarious journey as she struggles through both her personal and professional life, riding the roller coaster to superstardom.

Billie has a pet cat and is holding it in a few scenes. The first time we see Billie and the cat it is through the back window of the car. Billie holds the cat in her arms as she sits in the backseat of the car and watches her mother. Billie holds the cat in her arms as she enters a room with children where she will live. As she holds the cat in her arms, some of the children pet it. Later in the film when Billie is an adult, she moves out of the apartment she shares with Julian. Billie is shown holding the cat in her arms as she exits the apartment and walks down the street to her friend's apartment. Sue Parker provided both the cat and the kitten. At the end of the production, the cat found a permanent home with Sue and the kitten was adopted by Mariah Carey.
As the camera pans the city in one brief scene we see some horse drawn carriages sitting on the side of the road. These Hansom Cabs are commonly found in and around the parks in many urban centers.
