West Side Story (2021)
Two youngsters from rival New York City gangs fall in love, but tensions between their respective friends build toward tragedy.
Animal Action
In the establishing shot of the alley where we see a couple cats hanging around, the trainers removed their respective cats to place on their marks. Prior to shooting the scene, the trainer placed a dab of food on its mark on a piece of cardboard. On action the cat jumped off the trash can and ate the food. On action, the cats were filmed at whatever action they were doing.
All takes were done in this way, each time replacing the cats by their trainers at various starting marks in the alley way. Cameras were kept rolling except to change film midway.
