In the scene where the boy stares at the group of chickens in the coop and the chickens seem to be annoyed, clucking and fluttering, the trainers brought the chickens to the set from their van in large dog crates. The trainers released all chickens into the coop and removed the crates. Trainers provided water and left chickens to get accustomed to the coop. The trainers also left chicken feed on the floor of the coop to get all the chickens in one spot for filming. On action the child actor stood in front of the chicken coop. As soon as the actor who plays the father approaches the kid, one of the PA’s gave a hand signal to the trainers who released four chickens in the direction of the other eight. The chickens fluttered toward the group and stopped on the chicken feed. All chickens clucked and walked around eating their grain, giving the impression of being annoyed.

Later, when we see the same chickens dead in the coop, those were fake chickens from the props department. Production provided us with all the correct documents.
