Throughout the film, the main character has a pet dog, who is seen performing such mild action as sitting/standing/lying, being held or petted, and walking/running on or off leash. For all of these scenes, trainers used hand signals and verbal commands to cue the mild action, which the trained dog was accustomed to performing.

In the scene where the actor lies on his bed next to a dog, petting him, the trainer brought the dog to the set on a leash and placed her on a down-stay next to the actor. He removed the leash and backed out of frame. On action, the actor plays a video game, as the dog lays next to him.

In the scene where the a group of policemen comb the crime scene with dogs on leashes, the dogs were well suited for work and well trained search dogs. Between shots the dogs were given food and water.

In the scene where the actor takes his dog for a walk in front of the apartment while the media surrounds him, the trainer walked the dog to set and reintroduced her to the actor. A group of reporters were positioned 15 feet in front of the actors, holding prop video cameras with lights. When filming began, the actor walked the dog on leash slowly around the parking lot area occasionally squatting down and pointing to the ground as if trying to convince the dog to pee. He spoke softly to the dog. Meanwhile, the reporters yelled questions and pretended to film Richard and the dog. Richard ignored the reporters and slowly walked off with the dog to camera left. Total distance traveled approximately forty feet. The dog did not look frightened at all and all went well.

In the scene where we see two policemen on horses at the park, two police horses were ridden by their officer-partners in wardrobe.
