Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)

In the opening sequence when a team of soldiers on horseback rides towards an army of men on foot, most of it was created through CGI. The hero horses we see on screen were shot against a green screen. There were a dozen mounted horses in an open field filmed against a green screen. They did basic A to B trajectories holding rubber spears.

Although around the set there were extras and actors doing a fight scene. The set is in a woodland area with the pathway the horses take made with a rubber base which is covered by sand and pine needles giving protection to the tree roots but also very good grip for the horses. The horses were all ridden at walk back to the horse base then their tack taken off. After filming the scene, the horses were taken back to holding areas and given food and water.
