Throughout the film, the main character has a pet cat, who is seen performing such mild action as sitting/standing/lying, being held or petted, and walking/running. For all of these scenes, trainers used hand signals and verbal commands to cue the mild action, which the trained cat was accustomed to performing.

In the scene where the actor walks into his apartment and we see his cat jump off the bed, the trainers carried the cat in a carrier to the set. On action, the actor walked in the room and one of the trainers cued the cat to jump off the bed. The action was repeated.

In the scene when the cat crawls on his lap, the cat and the actor were already acquainted, so the cat jumped on his lap on his own.

In the scene where the pigeon flies from the ceiling in Penn Station, four pigeons were prepped with monofilament tethers to fly from A to B to a mark with food and a chirping sound box. Prior to shooting the scene, the trainer placed the pigeon on top of the ladder. On action, the pigeon flew to the crate with a bag of food on top of it. The trainer retrieved the bird with a net and reset it under the cage.
